Riders Gather to "Cruise For Cancer"

The 11th Annual Jerry Parins "Cruise For Cancer" ride was held on Sat., June 14th. Over 600 riders along with their passengers set the stage at Vandervest Harley-Davidson of Green Bay to register and turn in pledges. They were welcomed by Jerry Parins, the Vandervest Family, Emcee John Maino from The Drive /WNFL, Wild Fire HOG Chapter members and Director, Jeff Larmay, Packerland HOG Chapter members and Director, Greg Roberts, Wild Fire Safety Officer, Jack Felch and Pepper Burruss from the Green Bay Packers.

The ride left at 11 a.m. and took a scenic route to Seymour Fire Department. Members of the department, family and friends served the riders lunch. Jerry Parins and Jessie Micke from the Green Bay Packers, the Vandervest Family, Wild Fire HOG Chapter and the Packerland HOG Chapter members honored two families currently battling cancer.

The final stop was Lambeau Field. The highlight of this year's ride was a Chapter Challenge between the two Directors, Jeff Larmay and Greg Roberts. Their goal was to raise $6,000 for the cause and the one with the most votes would shave their head. They both agreed that if they earned $9,000, they would both get their head shaved. They earned $9,400.

Money was also raised with the live and silent auction, raffles, food/beverages and Packer autographs.

Thank you to all that attended and contributed time and money to help make this another successful event.

Jerry Parins "Cruise for Cancer" Donations Distributed
On Tuesday, June 24th, checks totaling $104,000 were distributed to the numerous organizations that deal with cancer patients in the Green Bay area. The money was raised at last year's Jerry Parins "Cruise for Cancer" ride held at Vandervest Harley-Davidson and Lambeau Field and a Compassionate Care Event held at The Drift Inn in De Pere.
The organizations will use this money to purchase the "extras" needed to help patients have a better experience while going through their treatments, etc. Checks were given to Angel Classic, Bellin Health Foundation, Fox Valley Brain Tumor Coalition, St. Mary's Hospital - "A Woman's Place", St. Vincent Hospital - "Child and Life Program and Compassionate Care Fund and Unity Limited Partnership".
The Packerland H.O.G. Chapter of Green Bay and the Wild Fire H.O.G. Chapter of Peshtigo affiliated with Vandervest Harley-Davidson, also ran a "Save It or Shave It" Campaign this year. Money was collected numerous ways to be able to vote on which Director would have to shave his head. The goal of $6,000 was over exceeded and $9,400 was raised so both Directors, Greg Roberts and Jeff Larmay had to have their heads shaved. The check was presented to Jerry Parins at Tuesday's distribution.

To date $750,000 was raised from the ride over the past 10 years.
